Press release: focus on the post-Covid-19 world

One year to INTERMAT: focus on the post-Covid-19 world, with a 2021 vintage looking to the future and unveiling the latest technological trends in construction

Every three years, INTERMAT is the global meeting place and the absolute reference for the sector of equipment, machinery, technology and materials for construction and infrastructure. In these difficult and unprecedented times that keep us all at a distance, the entire INTERMAT team is still hard at work preparing the next edition of the show in April 2021.

"Notwithstanding the current circumstances which are making their effects acutely felt in our sector, the time has come to look forward positively to the post-crisis period. We are grateful for the support of our partners and all those already committed to the success of our event. We strongly believe that INTERMAT 2021, held a long time after this troubled period, will, by bringing together all the stakeholders in our ecosystem, facilitate the return to a construction market with renewed positive prospects. While the reign of "e-life" will perhaps accelerate, the desire to be together and for social contact will also become apparent to the professions and companies in our sector," emphasises Isabelle Alfano, exhibition director.

More than ever, exhibitors and visitors will have the need to exchange, share the latest advances in their market and maximise their business opportunities. Additionally, this triennial event will bring its share of new developments, as the world of construction and infrastructure has seen substantial change since the 2018 edition.

"Since the beginning of the crisis, we have not registered any cancellations and we have even received confirmations of new registrations, all of which augurs for a significant increase in the number of exhibitors. This shows that the players in our sector are keenly awaiting to this major event that looks to the future. Our 2021 vintage indeed embodies a very forward-looking vision to respond as closely as possible to the new expectations that will take on even greater resonance once the crisis is over, in order to contribute effectively to the need for economic vitality and resilience for our society. In this respect, we will focus on low-pollution and low-carbon equipment, materials and solutions," adds Isabelle Alfano.

In addition to the four hubs of expertise highlighted during the 2018 edition, a new section dedicated to New Technologies will be making its debut, aiming to reflect the sector's inventiveness by showcasing all the smart technologies that will be an integral part of equipment in 2021: augmented reality, mobile applications, drones, 3D printing, information modelling (BIM), autonomous vehicles, Cloud technology, virtual engineering, Internet of Things, etc.

Visitors will also have the opportunity to dive into the heart of worksite 4.0, which promotes increased productivity, cost reduction, energy efficiency, and undeniable competitive advantages that will be at the heart of everyone's concerns in 2021.

"Our partners, the trade organisations in the construction, equipment and plant rental sectors. have mobilized to support companies in the sector during this crisis, and cater to the needs of its professionals, while guaranteeing the health and safety of all. Protecting workers’ health and safety on construction sites will also be at the heart of our event, as the need for safety will be even greater. "says Isabelle Alfano.

Major international and French construction projects are analysed by the 2nd Construction Markets and Projects Observatory, which has already been launched. Extended to 15 countries in Europe, Africa, the Middle East and Turkey, this strategic study, presenting the major construction projects up to 2030, will help to identify the sector's development potential and put the equipment and machinery exhibited at the show into perspective.

"For each country, this 2nd issue innovates with key macroeconomic indicators analysing economic growth, market trends and commercial data, but also the degree of innovation, accompanied by concrete examples in new technologies. Their benefits in terms of jobs, innovation, productivity and attractiveness will thus lie at the heart of our next event, which we look forward to sharing with our exhibitors and visitors in a positive and calm atmosphere," underlines Isabelle Alfano.
