Julien Mousseau's Interview, Managing Director of TRACKTOR, exhibitor on the "Start-Up by EUROVIA" Village

1- Can you describe your innovative solution in a few words?

Tracktor is a peer-to-peer construction machinery rental platform aimed at building and public works professionals. We connect firms wishing to hire building machines with professional owners and rental firms, contractors or trading companies who have them available and offer them for hire our site.

2- What stage of development have you reached? What are your next steps? What is your outlook?

Just more than a year after creating the company, we recently raised 700,000 euros of capital and welcomed Kerala Ventures and BTP Capital Investment among our shareholders. This will allow us to reinforce our technical teams and develop our services through out the country.

The platform went live in October 2016 and today it boats a fleet of 6,000 machines of all types for rental with or without an operator : mechanical shovels, telescopic booms, cranes, works trucks, dump trucks, scaffolding, etc. This includes some quite rare equipment such as 50m booms and excavators exceeding 40t (including a Liebherr 946 with a 50m  winch, the only one of its kind in France). Delivery to the site is also offered on option.

Our offer is today mainly concentrated in the Ile-de-France region (around Paris), but it is already possible to lifting and work-at-height equipment in large French cities such as Lyon, Lille, Marseille and Bordeaux.

Our capital raising operation will allow us to develop rapidly nationwide and deploy our model in other regions - a model which we have fine-tuned in the Paris region and which has already proven successful.

3- What are the trends in your market and around the world?

The building site equipment rental market has continued to grow in recent years in France.

Companies faced with a lack of visibility have curtailed their investments, which has driven them to hire equipment instead. On average we can observe that machines remain unused approximately 80 working days per year.

In France, the market for building and public works machinery rental is valued at 4,8 billion euros. Around the world, online machinery rental is growing fast. In the USA, which have grown to a large size, such as YardClub, and which have been bought out by Caterpillar and EquipmentShare, which have just raised 26 million dollars.

4- What appealed to you in the "Start-Up by EUROVIA" village offer? Why did you decide to exhibit in this village?

The building and public works sector is undergoing its digital transformation and there are an increasing number of innovations emerging. It is very important for us to enter into contact with the innovative actors in our sector and stay up to date on the latest innovations. The "Start-Up by EUROVIA" Village provides a perfect response to these expectations. Exhibiting here will allow us to grow our network and it will be another opportunity to make ourselves better known in the profession.

5- What do you expect to get out of your participation at INTERMAT Paris 2018?

INTERMAT is naturally a "must-attend" event for us.

It will be an opportunity to meet the sector's stakeholders but also to learn about the latest innovations.

Equipment rental and distribution professionals will also be in attendance, which increases the appeal for us.
